The Challenge

Event photographers traditionally spend days or weeks manually sorting, editing, and delivering photos to guests, creating frustration for both parties. Snapfreez needed to solve this with a platform that could handle instant camera-to-cloud uploads during live events, process thousands of photos with AI-powered facial recognition to automatically identify and match guests, deliver personalized galleries via WhatsApp within seconds, ensure secure access with privacy controls, handle concurrent uploads from multiple photographers, scale to serve large events (1000+ guests), and provide seamless experiences on mobile devices with varying internet speeds—all while maintaining photo quality and processing speed under 30 seconds.

My Solution

As a Software Engineer at Saylani, I architected and developed Snapfreez using Next.js and React for a blazing-fast, responsive interface optimized for both photographers and guests. The backend leverages Python with Node.js for real-time facial recognition AI that automatically identifies and tags guests in photos. I implemented a sophisticated camera-to-cloud pipeline with instant upload capabilities, built secure gallery generation with unique WhatsApp-shareable links, and integrated AWS S3 for scalable photo storage with CDN delivery. The platform features a photographer dashboard for event management and real-time upload tracking, guest self-registration with selfie capture for AI matching, automated WhatsApp notifications with secure gallery links, and intelligent photo compression that maintains quality while optimizing delivery speed. I developed WebSocket connections for real-time updates, implemented privacy controls ensuring guests only see their own photos, and created analytics dashboards for event organizers to track engagement and download metrics.
